Flowing
Like a River
January 29, 2012
Blair parked his car in his favorite spot on campus. It was close to the center of action so it was usually very busy and was well-lit at night. Things that he’d started to pay more attention to since working with Jim and the rest of the major crime division. No sense yelling ‘victim here… please, grab me.’ He had enough of a reputation without adding incidents due to lack of attention or carelessness on his part. He grabbed his backpack and double checked the locks before heading off towards his office.
What should I fix for
dinner tonight? Maybe that spicy, veggie
stir-fry that Jim likes. We’ve had a lot
of meat lately and the big guy should cut back some. His heart isn’t getting any younger.
“Hi, Sally. How are Joe and the kids? Good to hear, good to hear. Got to run, I’ve got office hours in a few and the hoards are upset about the paper that’s coming due next week.” Blair grinned with a twinkle in his eyes. “You too, see you later.”
Do we have enough bell
peppers and onions? I should probably
stop by the farmers market and grab some and see what else they have available
that might be turned into a yummy meatless dish for later in the week. Maybe
some squash, that usually goes over well with Jim.
“Hey, Sam. Howzit hanging, my man? Good, good. Low and slow, man. Low and slow.” Blair chuckled and completed the ritual handshake then turned and continued on toward his office with a quick glance at his watch.
Wonder if Jim is done
with court yet. He better come by and get me or take Joel with him if he goes to check anything
out. He’s got the self protective
instincts of a lemming and he gives ME a hard time about leaving a key outside
the loft. At least I stay inside the
car, and train, and… That man is going to be the death of me.
“Hello, how can I help you? The cafeteria or the best place to get coffee,” Blair laughed. “Go left past that building you see if front of you. Walk another block and there is a man with a hotdog cart on the corner. I know, a hot dog cart… but, still there you go. Tell him Blair sent you. Best coffee you’ve ever had, promise. Enjoy your visit with your daughter.”
So, if Jim is done
with court he’ll meet me for lunch. It
will be nice to get a chance to make sure he’s doing okay. He seems to have trouble dealing with that
judge. And.. whoa… Hubba hubba. Darn,
I knew I should have worn the other shirt today. I really need to do laundry tonight. What a view, what a view.
“Ladies, it is always the highlight of my day to enjoy your presence even if for so brief a period of time. I look forward to it every chance I get.” Blair bowed low and did a courtly hand gesture and then grinned as they laughed with him.
I need to drop off
that draft of my paper today. Really
hope it passes muster. I don’t have time
to do a whole lot of editing on it with everything else that needs to get done
today before the stakeout tonight. And I
need to be grading papers during the stakeout.
So glad it’s not supposed to rain tonight.
“Hey gang, good to see you. So, let’s start as a group for generic questions and then those of you who need it, you can stay for a one on one session. Okay? Let’s get started.”
Stay safe, Jim.
Blair opened his office door and began his morning.
