Snowy Night

It snowed again today.  Real snow.  Not that slushy, icy mess we usually get in Cascade.  Puffy soft flakes floating along, hither and yon… before they finally deign to descend lightly to the ground.  Stately particles tumbling down so nonchalantly, you can almost hear them say "after you.  No, no I insist, after you."  They are spaced so far apart you can almost see the individual shapes as they float along.  They land on my jacket, but it is so cold outside, they don't immediately melt.  I can see all the crystalline structures.

From the most basic of hexagonal prisms, to the more complex stellar dendrites and sectored plates.  Some perfectly formed, others with an arm or two broken off as they got banged around on their way to the ground.

Broken arms, legs twisted in a jumbled, abnormal angle… it was so hard to believe the heap of clothing, the body on the ground next to me… is… was my partner….

Oh God, not again.  Snow.    We're talking about snow.

Glistening like diamonds in the moonlight.  The wind gently moves the snow around causing the snowflakes to shift and dance about.   It's mesmerizing.  It would be so easy to lose yourself in the drifting white.  Just float along and relax… give in… go gently into the night.
