You can thank (or curse) family movie night for this one too. August 29th's movie was "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" which I haven't watched since I was the kids' age. I sat there smirking through the movie thinking, okay cue the song… now add in the dancers… it's been at least five minutes. LOL. Still, I loved the scene in the candy factory. Gil's sure that singing and dancing is a hiring requirement for working there. (snerk)
If you've never seen the movie, imagine a cross between "Mary Poppins" and "Santa Clause is Comin' to Town" complete with their version of Burgermeister Meisterburger. So during the middle of song number (who knows), in pops my muse wondering how I could turn this in to a Jim and Blair moment. This story /songfic/ whatever is the result. Oh and just so you know, I can't pay for your therapy bills, I have to save it for my kids. You've been warned. ;) Enjoy.
Note: The song lyrics are in a different font.
Oh yeah, and extra special thanks to Judy for the beta work. She helped me out with this story while riding out Hurricane Ike without the benefit of power or water. Fortunately for both of us, her phone was still working… and really that's all you need, right?

Blair walked in to the bullpen devouring the folder in his hand. He was intent on finding the missing clue they needed to solve the case. He knew it was in there. Somewhere.
Blair bumped into someone, dropped the file, and looked up, "Sorry, Rhonda. I didn't know you were there."
"First when there's nothing, but a slow glowing dream, that your fear seems to hide deep inside your mind," Rhonda sang.
"Um, Rhonda… are you okay?" Blair asked.
H started to sing. "All
alone I have cried, silent tears full of pride, in a world made of steel, made
of stone."
Jim stood up and walked toward Blair. "Well, I hear the music…." He shut his eyes and continued to sing, "close my eyes, feel the rhythm, wrap around, take a hold of my heart."
Blair blinked, a bit startled and looked around the room to try to figure out what was going on. He hadn't been gone that long. Maybe they pumped something into the air. He stared up at the vents.
Megan joined the group of detectives gathering in front of Blair. "What a feeling. Being's believing. I can have it all, now I'm dancing for my life."
"Take your passion, and make it happen," Rafe sang as he grabbed Megan and started to twirl her around the open space between the desks. "Pictures come alive, you can dance right through your life."
Blair's mouth dropped open as he heard Simon's voice behind him. He spun around in amazement and saw Simon doing the cha cha with the donut girl. "Now I hear the music, close my eyes, I am rhythm. In a flash it takes hold of my heart."
H pulled his sax out of a drawer and jumped up on the desk and started
wailing on it. Jim bowed to Rhonda and
they did something that looked like a cross between a waltz and the
"What a feeling. (I am music now) Being's believing (I am rhythm now) Pictures
come alive, you can dance right through your life. What a feeling. (You can really have it all)
What a feeling."
Jim belted the rest of the lyrics to the song as he leaped onto the top of his desk with Rhonda right beside him. They did a few last dance moves and then ended with a dramatic back breaking swoop that should have had them both flat on their backs on the floor.
The hall way erupted with applause as the Major Crime unit finished their impromptu song and dance. Then everyone went back to work like nothing out of the ordinary had happened.
Blair glanced around again and slowly picked up the folder he'd dropped. He turned like an automaton and headed back to the records department. This has got to be a bad dream. I'm going back down stairs and then come up again and see what happens.

Blair cautiously entered the bullpen, folder in his hand. He pretended to be intent on finding the missing clue they needed to solve the case. He still knew it was in there. Somewhere, but he had a few other things on his mind. Like the health and sanity of his teammates. His cautious glances enabled him to avoid bumping into Rhonda this time. He made it safely to Jim's desk and sat down with a sigh of relief. "Okay, that worked," he muttered. "But, what am I missing in this file? Maybe previous locations?"
Simon opened the door to his office and belted out the lyrics while Jim
provided the counterpoint, "when I come home, (when I come home) oh I
know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be the man who comes back home to you."
H pushed Rafe around the room in his rolling desk chair while singing the next verse. "And if I grow old, well I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be the man who's growing old with you."
The remaining Major Crime members all stood up and militantly sang "but
I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more. Just to be the man who walks
1,000 miles
to fall down at your door."
Rhonda, Megan, and the donut girl formed a chorus line and sang while doing
high kicks. "Na na na, na na na, na na na, na na na, lika lika lika lika lika
la, la, la…."
Jim took over while Simon sang the counterpoint. "When I'm lonely, well
I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be the man whose lonely without you. And when I'm dreaming, well I know I'm gonna
dream, I'm gonna dream about the time when I'm with you.
Blair grabbed the folder and ran out of the room, pushing past the gathering
crowd. As he headed for the stairs the
strains of the chorus followed him.
"But I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more. Just to be the man who walked 1,000 miles to fall down at your door."

"ARGH!" Blair sat up suddenly and fell out of the chair he'd been sitting in. He banged his elbow on the arm of the chair, rapped his chin on the table, and landed hard on his rear.
Jim ran into the room followed by Simon, H, and Rafe. The men stopped in amazement as Blair sat up, covered in paper and blood. Jim gave Blair a rapid visual checkup and ducked back out of the room after the first aid kit.
Simon boomed, "Sandburg, what the hell did you do to yourself?"
H and Rafe each gave Blair a pat on the shoulder and a sympathetic glance as they started to pick up the papers. They tried to sort them into blood stained and not blood stained piles.
Jim re-entered the room with a wet towel and the first aid kit. Rhonda followed behind with a bag of ice. Jim cleaned off the blood, checked for further injuries, then bandaged Blair's chin. Rhonda handed over the ice. Jim started to place the bag on Blair's chin. Blair stopped him and dug into the bag for an ice chip. He placed it on his tongue then handed the bag back to Jim.
"Let me see your tongue," Jim said.
Blair glared at his partner and stuck out said tongue.
Jim grabbed it quickly with a piece of gauze and looked at the injury.
"Lem me go," Blair mumbled while Jim held his tongue.
"Hey, this is it!" H waived a slightly blood stained piece of paper around.
Rafe grabbed it, looked at it and started to grin. "You're a genius, Sandburg."
"Whad?" Blair tried to ask then glared at Jim who was still holding his tongue.
Rafe tipped the paper to Simon which allowed Jim to see the sheet too. Both men got predator grins on their faces. "We've got him now. Good work, Sandburg." Simon slapped Blair on the back which knocked him into Jim, who was still holding Blair's tongue.
"Oww," Blair yipped as he bit his tongue again.
"Sorry, Chief," Jim patted him and finally let go of Blair's tongue. "I think you'll live."
"You think I'll live. How helpful of you," Blair glared at his partner fisting his hand on his hips.
"Woooooah," Rafe said softly. "Feel the love."
H looked at his partner and grinned. "Now there's no welcome look in your
eyes when I reach for you. And now you're starting to criticize little things I
do. It makes me just feel like crying,
(baby). 'Cause baby, something in you is dying."
Rafe laughed and joined in the familiar chorus as
both men left the room to go pick up their suspect. "You lost that lovin'
feeling, whoa, that lovin' feeling, you've lost that lovin' feeling, now it's
gone...gone...gone...woooooah."
Simon rolled his eyes at the antics of the two men and whapped Blair on the
back again. "Good job, keep up the
good work." He walked out of the
room and started humming. "Baby,
baby, I get down on my knees for you. If
you would only love me like you used to do, yeah."
Blair turned white and bolted for the bathroom.
Jim turned to Rhonda and shrugged as they left the
room humming.
The end.
